The STICS innovation ecosystem is up and running!

Living Labs will prepare Slovakia for the smart era.

Great news! The Smart Transformational and Innovation Consortium Slovakia (STICS) project is moving into its next phase.

STICS was created with a clear goal: to connect players across sectors and build a functioning, modern ecosystem for innovation in Slovakia. And we succeeded at the very first step. So far, 24 international partners have joined the project and are jointly building an innovative future for Slovakia. They include academic institutions (9), companies (7), non-profit organisations (3), technology transfer organisations (2) and local authorities (3).

The preparatory phase is successfully complete!

The STICS project began its preparatory phase in April 2025 and has now successfully completed it.

Representatives of all 24 partners met at the Faculty of Management of Comenius University Bratislava on 10 December 2025 for the General Assembly of partners, to review the conclusions of the first phase. The assembly was opened by the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Peter Štarchoň.

Representatives of academia, local authorities and business are already celebrating the first successes. In the six Living Labs, for example, an open system of cooperation is gradually being tested, one that turns data and ideas into practical solutions for towns and municipalities.

What comes next?

In the next phase, eight working groups will deliver concrete outputs: the first prototypes, models and tools that partners will test and refine. Ahead of us is the full launch of six Living Labs, covering everything from rural areas and towns to social innovation and data centres.

  • At the Faculty of Management of Comenius University, for example, a Smart Green Campus is being created to test green and smart solutions directly in an urban setting.
  • The aim of the Territorial Data Center and TP Living Lab, in turn, is to create standardised spatial data about the territory, along with applications that will give local authorities a more accurate overview.
